Turkmenistan, EU Discuss Joint Business Forum in Ashgabat

Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, Sapar Palvanov, held a meeting with Peteris Ustubs, Director for International Partnerships of the European Commission for Asia and the Pacific. During the talks, the sides discussed the possibility of organizing an "EU–Turkmenistan" business forum in Ashgabat in 2026. The event is expected to mark a new step in strengthening economic ties between the two partners, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium reported on Tuesday.

A key focus of the meeting was the preparation of upcoming EU–Central Asia economic and investment forums, scheduled to take place in Tashkent in late November 2025. The program will include the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor Investors Forum, which aims to attract the attention of the international business community to the region.

The Turkmen side confirmed its readiness to host the next round of the EU–Central Asia Economic Forum in Ashgabat.

The diplomats also discussed Turkmenistan’s potential participation in the Global Gateway Forum, set to be held in October in Brussels, the capital of the European Union. Both parties emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation in both bilateral and regional formats, with special attention given to connectivity in all its dimensions—transport, education, and humanitarian affairs.

The EU Delegation in Turkmenistan noted that the EU and Turkmenistan hold annual bilateral Joint Committee meetings to address key areas of their relationship, particularly in trade and economics, the implementation of the EU–Central Asia Strategy, political and economic developments, and the main aspects of EU development cooperation programs.
