Turkmenistan, Pakistan Discuss Development of Transit Through Seaports

Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Atajan Movlamov, met on Monday with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar, to discuss transport and logistics cooperation between the two countries. The officials reviewed the potential for effective use of the transit and logistics capacities of the Turkmenbashi, Karachi, and Gwadar seaports, which hold strategic importance for regional trade, according to a statement from the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Pakistan.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized the need to modernize railway infrastructure to establish reliable transport corridors across the region.

The parties also underlined the importance of multifaceted cooperation and highlighted Pakistan’s strategic role as a connecting hub for expanding economic ties and diversifying trade routes.

At the conclusion of the talks, the diplomats expressed readiness for continued constructive dialogue and the timely implementation of joint projects aimed at promoting economic growth and developing regional infrastructure.

The ports of Karachi and Gwadar play a key role in regional trade. Karachi handles the majority of Pakistan’s imports and exports, including container and oil shipments. Gwadar, a deep-sea port, is being developed with Chinese support as part of the Belt and Road Initiative.
