Turkmenistan Ready to Boost Gas Exports to SCO Nations

Turkmenistan is ready to expand its supply of natural gas to the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stated at the “SCO+” summit held in Tianjin, China, according to official Turkmen media.

The Turkmen leader emphasized the country’s commitment to deeper cooperation in the energy sector and its openness to discussing practical aspects of electricity exports, as well as diversifying supply routes and increasing volumes.

In addition to energy cooperation, Turkmenistan is also implementing joint projects in the field of telecommunications, including the construction of a fiber-optic communication line through Afghanistan to Pakistan. President Berdimuhamedov invited SCO organizations to take part in expanding the reach and capacity of such large-scale infrastructure initiatives.

He also highlighted the prospects for industrial cooperation, noting the growing number of manufacturing enterprises in Turkmenistan, along with the expanding range of products and services, which could contribute significantly to economic partnerships within the SCO framework.

Turkmenistan holds the world’s fourth-largest proven reserves of natural gas, following Russia, Iran, and Qatar. In 2024, the country produced over 77.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas and more than 8.3 million tons of oil, according to the national oil and gas industry e-newspaper.
