Turkmenistan Ready to Discuss Turkmenbashi International Seaport Use with SCO

Turkmenistan is ready for practical dialogue on the use of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport in the interests of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said at the “SCO+” summit held Monday in Tianjin, China.

According to the head of state, the multifunctional terminal could become a vital link in the development of efficient transport and logistics corridors. The statement was reported by Turkmenistan’s official media.

Addressing the leaders of SCO member states, President Berdimuhamedov emphasized that transport, logistics, and energy are among the top priority areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the SCO.

He highlighted the importance of trans-Caspian and coastal Caspian routes, noting the alignment of interests between Turkmenistan and the SCO in these areas.

“Today, new opportunities are emerging for the development of a large-scale logistics corridor along the East–West and North–South axes, where Turkmenistan and SCO countries can serve as key links,” the Turkmen leader stated. “Coordinated efforts and the pooling of resources will pave the way for a unified geoeconomic space stretching from the Pacific Ocean to the Baltic Sea, encompassing the Asia-Pacific region, Central and South Asia, Russia, and the Middle East.”

President Berdimuhamedov also expressed gratitude to SCO member states for supporting United Nations resolutions on Turkmenistan’s neutrality. He invited SCO delegations to attend celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of the country’s internationally recognized neutral status, scheduled for December in Ashgabat.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a regional intergovernmental organization established in 2001 to promote security, economic cooperation, and humanitarian ties across Eurasia. Its members include Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, India, Iran, and Belarus.
