Turkmenistan Invites China to Develop Joint Transport, Logistics Corridor Plan

Turkmenistan has invited Chinese partners to engage in dialogue on establishing a sustainable Turkmenistan–China transport and logistics corridor through Central Asia, the Caspian Sea, and further westward. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov made the proposal during a meeting with Ding Xuexiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and First Vice Premier of the State Council of China, held Tuesday in Beijing, according to official Turkmen media.

Vice Premier Ding emphasized that China attaches great importance to its cooperation with Turkmenistan. He noted that the two countries enjoy robust trade and economic relations, dynamic cultural and humanitarian exchanges, and an active political dialogue.

Energy remains a cornerstone of the Turkmenistan–China partnership. A symbol of their successful cooperation is the Turkmenistan–China gas pipeline, which has been operational since 2009. President Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude to Chinese partners, including the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), for their continued collaboration in the energy sector.

In the field of transportation, the Turkmen leader reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to expand cooperation in railway transport, including modernization of the national rail system and procurement of new equipment from China.

He also highlighted Turkmenistan’s ongoing efforts to develop its transit and transport infrastructure, drawing attention to the potential for a Trans-Caspian logistics route.

At the conclusion of the meeting, President Berdimuhamedov and Vice Premier Ding reaffirmed their commitment to elevating bilateral cooperation to a new level and wished each other health and continued success in their official duties.

Earlier, representatives of Turkmenistan and China had underscored the importance of exploring new, mutually beneficial routes for cargo delivery from China to Europe through Central Asia, utilizing the transport corridors of both countries.
