From October 7 to 12, the 7th Caspian Universiade was held in Astrakhan among students of universities that are members of the Association of Universities and Research Centers of the Caspian States. A team of students from Turkmenistan studying at the Magtymguly Turkmen State University and the Turkmen State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering took part in the Universiade.

Student athletes from Turkmenistan took part in competitions in track and field, swimming, chess and checkers. According to the results of the Universiade, Turkmen athletes won 5 silver and 2 bronze medals.

Representatives of universities from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Azerbaijan, the Russian Federation, as well as students from Haiti, Senegal, Morocco, Cameroon, Guinea-Bissau, Chad, Tunisia, Egypt and Ghana studying at universities in the Astrakhan region took part in the competition.
