Turkmenistan to Become Transit Hub for Uzbekistan Routes to Europe

The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan announced plans to develop international transit routes, including the creation of new corridors through Turkmenistan, as reported by the agency Türkmenawtoulaglary on Tuesday.

Transport Minister Ilhom Makhamov said that the key routes will include Turkmenistan – Iran – Türkiye – EU and Turkmenistan – Azerbaijan – Georgia – Europe.

These corridors will play an important role in ensuring the sustainability of the country’s foreign trade operations. To implement them, Uzbekistan plans to sign new international agreements in the field of road transport with Belgium, Norway, Croatia, and other countries, and will review existing contracts with China, Iran, Belarus, and several other states.

Additionally, as part of improving logistics, the plan includes the introduction of green corridors to simplify customs procedures and accelerate the flow of goods. An important part of the strategy will involve mutual recognition of transport documentation between countries.

Earlier, the government of Uzbekistan approved new fees for the entry of foreign freight vehicles.
