American billionaire Elon Musk and a group of investors have made an offer to buy the non-profit organization that controls the AI startup OpenAI for about $100 billion, according to the Financial Times.
The application was sent the day before, said businessman Mark Toberoff's lawyer.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman responded to the offer on the social network X (formerly Twitter) with the words:
"No thanks, but we'll buy Twitter for $9.74 billion if you want".
Recall that Musk acquired Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion.
It is worth noting that this event may indicate competition between Musk and Altman in the field of artificial intelligence development. OpenAI is one of the leading players in this market, and Musk is also actively investing in AI development, including through his company xAI.
Altman's refusal of Musk's offer may indicate that OpenAI is not interested in selling and plans to develop independently.
