Airbus may Introduce Double-Decker Seats in Aircraft

Aviation giant Airbus has begun exploring several concepts related to the double-decker arrangement of passenger seats in aircraft. In this matter, the European aircraft manufacturer is collaborating with aviation startup Chaise Longue, but details of their joint work have not yet been disclosed.

The essence of the project is to eliminate overhead luggage compartments in the aircraft cabin, which will increase usable height and allow for the placement of seats one above the other.

The advantage of the lower row will be more legroom, and the upper row will have increased seat back recline.

Initially, the concept was intended for economy class, but last year a version for first class and business class was presented.

The goal of the project is to optimize space inside aircraft and, accordingly, reduce the cost of air travel.
