The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has implemented more than 80 projects in Turkmenistan, the majority of which focus on supporting exporters, announced Erik Livny, Head of the EBRD Resident Office in Turkmenistan during the international conference “Ensuring Quality in Line with International Standards in Turkmenistan 2025” held on Tuesday in Ashgabat.
According to Livny, the Bank has been actively providing advisory support to local businesses, with 42 projects successfully implemented in recent years to help private companies adopt international standards, Turkmenistan’s official media reported.
“The adoption of international standards is crucial, as it enables companies to enter markets they were previously unfamiliar with,” Livny said, citing the export of greenhouse tomatoes as an example of positive trends in recent years.
The head of EBRD also highlighted Turkmenistan’s attractiveness for doing business, pointing to low tax rates and a competitive cost structure.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, founded in 1991 by 40 countries and two international organizations, operates in 34 countries today. The bank began its activities in Turkmenistan in 1992. Its mission is to promote financial stability, support private enterprise development, and help build institutions that strengthen business connectivity.
