Türkiýe plans to begin importing Turkmen natural gas from Turkmenistan in five years through a pipeline to be constructed beneath the Caspian Sea, President of Türkiýe Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced at the Natural Resources Summit in Istanbul, according to Turkmenistan’s Agency of Transport and Communications.
The Turkish leader noted that deliveries of Turkmen gas have already started via Iran in March. Approximately 250 million cubic meters have been delivered so far, with total volumes expected to reach 1.3 billion cubic meters by the end of the year.
The president emphasized that expanding energy cooperation with Turkmenistan remains a strategic priority for Ankara.
A gas supply agreement between the two countries was signed on 10 February, 2025, following bilateral negotiations.
