Brussels: Turkmenistan Outlines Key Areas to Expand Cooperation With EU

Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, Babaniyaz Yalakov, took part in the EU–Central Asia High-Level Dialogue on Economic and Financial Cooperation held on May 12–13 in Brussels, Belgium.

During the plenary session, Yalakov presented Turkmenistan’s strategic priorities for expanding cooperation with the European Union. He emphasized the importance of multilateral engagement in key sectors such as infrastructure, sustainable energy, digitalization, water management, and the extraction of critical raw materials. The discussions were framed around the EU’s Global Gateway strategy, according to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium.

The event, held under Poland’s presidency of the EU Council, brought together representatives from Central Asia, EU institutions, and international financial organizations. The Turkmen delegation also participated in working sessions with the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and JEFIC — a network of leading European development finance institutions.
