President of Turkmenistan Meets UN Secretary-General in Avaza

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at the Avaza National Tourist Zone. The meeting took place within the framework of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), according to official Turkmen media.

The Turkmen leader expressed confidence that the current conference would provide momentum for the implementation of the new Programme of Action for LLDCs, approved in December 2024. The President emphasized Turkmenistan’s readiness to actively participate in international efforts to promote sustainable development and integrate landlocked countries into the global economy.

António Guterres thanked the Turkmen side for the high level of organization of the forum and noted the country’s significant contribution to addressing pressing global issues. He stated that Turkmenistan has established itself as a strategic UN partner, actively supporting peace, security, and sustainable development both regionally and beyond.

Both parties expressed confidence that the outcomes of the Avaza conference would become an important step toward expanding international cooperation and establishing new transport and logistics routes. At the conclusion of the meeting, the UN Secretary-General acknowledged Turkmenistan’s progress in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.

The international UN conference on LLDCs is expected to host heads of state from 32 countries, as well as government leaders, delegations from UN member states, the UN Secretary-General, and his deputies.
